My family actually built the Drake and owned it until the early 70′s. Some of the mid-century details were really amazing – I still have a metal side table from the patio furniture. One of my most vivid memories, however, is the Christmas decorations – just completely in the mode of the 60′s and completely over the top. I also remember seeing the decorator pages with the swatches from the drapes. My grandmother, who loved the blue color, was middle aged when she worked with the designers to develop the “look” of the motel. It was really forwardf for the time period and a bold step in Chattanooga!
